I had a lovely picnic with my sister-in-law, Marla, and her kids at the Ranching Heritage Center last week while I was in Lubbock. My nephews and niece have a special place in my heart and really I give them most of the credit for me wanting to have children this year. I have always been kind of nervous around children until Marla and my brother's wife, Jenice, had their boys. I can't wait to have my own little boy and yes, I will most likely turn this into a mommy blog saturated with pictures of my little Solomon from day to day, so brace yourself.

I just got back from my monthly trip to Lubbock, Texas to book sessions and visit family last night. I had such a good time shooting again! It seems like this never ending winter up here really shuts down the business, but I am looking forward to SPRING!!

I am getting quite a few inquiries for weddings lately and am excited about taking them again. I will start taking up to 2 per month from August of 2011-August of 2012.

My plan will be to only take 1 per month after Josh starts his teaching job next Fall so that I can be as involved in my family and helping him grade papers as possible, so be sure to contact me as soon as you can if you want to have a spot!

This baby in my tummy is rumbling around like a circus! I will be 23 weeks this Friday (since they changed my due date) and am so excited to be able to SEE him moving around! Everyone in Lubbock that wanted to feel him move was able to and that was really great!

I will be featured in the OSU student newspaper tomorrow! That is pretty exciting!

Well tomorrow starts a post or two of sessions per day (I know, it's almost like I'm back from the dead!) and I will pull back in all of the personal posts for a while:)

Today marks the halfway point of my pregnancy. I only have 20 more weeks to go. I'm getting pretty big...

14261.jpg

We also have had another full week of Snowpocalypse 2011 hit us. Two weeks in a row we have had negative temps and at least 6 inches of snow, and it has kept me in the house reading books and enjoying having Josh home from school. I decided that I needed a hobby while we were snowed in and have decided to pick up knitting. I bought Solomon the cutest newborn hat on etsy and wanted to learn how to make them myself. It is like a whole new language and kind of tough looking, so I started out small with just a "cast on" and then rows of regular knits for my first scarf. Boy is this time consuming! Maybe I will just keep purchasing the hats because it is not worth 5 hours of my time to knit a 5 inch scarf! It did bring new meaning to Psalm 139 where David says "You have knit me in my mother's womb". Seriously, knitting is very detailed and time consuming, like creating a baby!
14259.jpg

It is true that once you become pregnant your entire brain changes from "me" centeredness to "baby" centered. I felt immediate encouragement to grow up when we found out that we were expecting and I am now in the in between stage of married without kids and married with kids groups. It is a weird and pretty alienating experience I think. I really thought that I would be a lot tougher and resilient to the changes that it is all bringing, but I have been a little more weak about it all... maybe it's just those hormones.

14260.jpg

Here is my new fabric for Solomon's baby bedding. I hope that his room is as cute as I am envisioning. You will have to wait and see!!! I went into the living room to take this picture and realized that we have the same color scheme in the living room and in the farm room as we will in the baby room. I guess aqua, red, cream and white are really in right now!

Lauren! It's so fun and encouraging to read your posts! I love your bedding for the baby and I can't wait to see the little guy on your blog! :)

hi lauren! When I was 21 and almost 7 mo prego with my first, we had just moved to a new town two states away....and here I was having my first baby and not working....kinda an identity crisis.....anyways, when my baby was just a few weeks old, I joined MOPS http://www.mops.org/ ......it totally helped me connect with other new moms....made alot of good friends...got to heara fun parenting topic and had a small group that really encouraged me in that first year of motherhood and not to mention, it gave me something to "do" every other week! You just may want to check into it! :-) Happy nesting!

(02.09.11 @ 06:27 PM)
Georgia:

You look JUST like me and JUST like my friend who is also 20 weeks. It makes me feel normal and I breathe a sigh of relief. Ahhh....

Even though I still admit that I look down each day and swear I:
a.) grow EVERY single day.....
b.) look like Homer Simpson
c.) look like the Grinch without green hair
d.) have already grown out of the matnernity pants my tiny friends loaned me. :(

But you look ADORABLE so it makes me want to think maybe I'm adorable ish too.

(02.09.11 @ 09:34 PM)
Heidi:

Look at your cute belly! And I love your style/color choices. It's going to be one cute room, I'm sure! I gave up knitting when I was 11 because of the time-consumption. For me, crocheting is much quicker. :)

(02.09.11 @ 10:21 PM)
Shannon:

I LOVE your personal posts so don't feel bad posting them. Plus this is YOUR blog so you can do whatever the heck you want on it! And don't be upset about getting bigger... it's what your baby needs! Be happy you are providing him with a warm safe haven to chill in for now :) You look beautiful, embrace it! I mean hey... this is the only time in your life where the fatter you get the more beautiful people think you are... EMBRACE IT!!!! :) Enjoy this time with the boys :)

(02.10.11 @ 08:18 AM)
Angela C.:

Hi Lauren.....this is my first comment! Anyhow I just wanted to say that in starting my photog business and in speaking with expectant woman they are always concerned about how "big" they are, what I've come to realize is that pregnant women no matter their size are beautiful. You look amazing. Oh and Etsy is addiciting be careful! :)

(02.10.11 @ 09:54 AM)
Sharon Horrocks:

I have been a reader for awhile and am finally commenting! :) I wanted to say that I love your posts, home makeover and photography. Congrats on your pregnancy and I think you look great! Love your fabrics and colors. They look fun.

(02.10.11 @ 10:05 AM)
Tabitha H:

You might wanna give crochet a try - it's so much quicker and easier (and easier to undo mistakes!). I'd definitely say it's more relaxing than knitting because you don't have to think quite as hard :)

(02.11.11 @ 01:01 PM)
Bobbie Brown:

Ohh, that 20 week mark feel so good doesn't it?! Now you get to start counting DOWN your weeks :)

(02.12.11 @ 01:37 PM)
Kim:

I'm a knitting fiend! If you'd like a quicker project, fatter needles and fatter yarn will yield a quicker scarf. Keep going, you'll get faster at it.

Hi, I have been following your blog for a while now too, I don't comment too much but I enjoy getting to learn a little more about you and your "family life" like your house renovations and pregnancy updates, also love seeing your photography work, I'm such a fan of your work.
Can't wait to see solomon's room with the color scheme that you picked. I recently started teaching myself to knit too, after seeing all of the adorable crochet and knit hats out there I figured why not, I can do this , but I agree it has been pretty tim consuming. It does get a little easier as you go though keep up the good work. Love the belly bump picture, thanks for sharing. When I was pregnant with my son I gained somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 - 45 lbs which brought my final weight to just under 200 lbs. I felt like a hippo and in result I did not take many pictures to document my pregnancy which I really regret now. Wish I could go back and embrace the baby weight gain a little more instead of being so self concious about it. Anyhoo sorry about my book here just thought I'd share some of my experience with you, to show that your not alone with your emotions, every woman is different but we all have our own sort of rollercoaster. Best wishes.

Well we have another week of Snowpocalypse 2011 coming our way. It had just melted today when someone facebooked me and warned me about the 2-3 foot drifts that we might have over the next few days. Sigh. I'm tired of this weather. I need sunshiney bliss in my life.

We have been spending a lot of time over at Josh's parent's house lately and I finally decided to blog some personal photos. I really haven't picked up my camera much lately and decided that I needed to capture this slightly un-eventful time in our lives.

Stella is Mike and Laura's little wiener dog and Josh is her boyfriend. She bites the tar out of my with her little knife like teeth and then right when she gets shoved onto Josh, his beard is like a love potion. She just starts combing it with her paws and licking his face for as long as he can tolerate it. Strange dog. Maybe I should try rubbing my face on his beard...

Why no baby bump pictures lately? Well maybe it's because I weigh as much as Josh did when we married. That is the exact reason. It's too bad that I'm not one of the lucky "gain it only in your belly" kind of ladies, nope, I'm one of those "let's see who can hit 200 pounds the fastest" kind of ladies. Another deep... sigh.

I'll be officially half way through my pregnancy on Wednesday and this baby is starting to get active!

Stella's expression is priceless ... hopefully the next round of the Snowpocalypse won't be as bad as this last one!

Rachel H.:

Don't worry Lauren I was one of those girls who gained the weight everywhere with my pregnancies too. I laugh because I gained 50lbs with my daughter and only 42lbs when I was pregnant with my twins. Lol, I guess a lil too much ice cream with my first pregnancy.

(02.07.11 @ 06:19 PM)
Georgia:

I'm right there with you. I'll be 19 weeks on Wednesday and I'm NOT glorying in pregnancy pics (though I'm sure I'll regret it "someday"). I want to punch people who say they're not yet in maternity pants when I've already grown out of most of mine!! :(

(02.07.11 @ 08:54 PM)
Carol Howard:

Lauren, I always said when I was pregnant it looked like someone stuck a straw in my belly button and blew!

(02.08.11 @ 01:02 PM)
Amanda :

I'm sure you look great! I feel like I'm surrounded by women right now who only have the baby bump and no other weight gain. I KNOW it's in my family history to balloon up everywhere, and even though I'm not pregnant, my sister is, and she's feeling huge all over. It's nice to know we're not alone with our genes. :)

(02.09.11 @ 10:20 AM)
Danielle:

Don't regret how you look! Soon it will be so forgotten when you have that baby in your arms. Embrace your belly! Remember, he is learning your heartbeat.
I love love your work and blog. I read it everyday! Thanks for letting us see into your fun world!

January 31, 2011

I just felt like making another update on my life since I don't have that much to post about lately.

mesherrie.jpg

1. Solomon is almost 8 ounces and is wiggling up a storm in my gut. I still can't feel it from the outside (too many doughnuts I guess), but love feeling it from the inside!

2. I have been so incredibly NOT busy! I forgot how different the climate is here in Oklahoma compared to Lubbock. I will call my sister and she'll tell me that her and my mom are laying out by the pool in 75 degree weather (weather that I used to shoot in during the winter months) while I'm huddled up in blankets in 30 degree weather here. No one wants shoots in the cold weather... go figure. So I have just been hanging out, reading parenting and motherhood books and enjoying a season off before things get all riled up in March.

3. We just got back from Kansas City, Mo and Josh is right, it is one of the coolest cities we've been too. I helped host a baby shower (pictures coming soon I'm sure) and then photographed a session for a really fun photographer, Sharaya!

4. I'm about to plant my seeds for my kitchen garden this week also! It's about that time if you are starting from seeds instead of small plants. I'm planting Brandywine tomatoes, Amish Paste tomatoes, Cosmic Purple Carrots, Jalapenos, and Dessert King Watermelons. It should be a fun first garden for me! Wish me luck, I do have a habit of killing all plants that I have been in charge of. I have read a ton of books on gardening back when I was planning on being a farm girl and not a momma:)

5. I'm getting pretty big. Big in each and every way. Chubby face, chubby arms, pregnant momma thighs and my arm pits are itching like the devil! I'm not sure what that last part is all about, but I'm scratching them like a dog! My belly also has been looking about a month or two ahead of schedule and people keep asking me if I'm carrying twins. Nope, just eating a lot and not sucking in (ok, maybe I'm so excited to be pregnant that I'm pushing out just a little).

6. I'm headed to Lubbock on Feb 15-19th and then off to stay with my bff Aimee Braun in her little town of Cross Plains, Texas for another day. It will be the start of my monthly Lubbock shooting trip until the first of May, and so if you are wanting to book a session there you will have plenty of options!

7. We are about to get hit with 8-10 inches of snow. I haven't seen that much snow since I lived in Monte Vista, Colorado in 4th grade. I am definitely going sledding with a trash bag and piece of cardboard.

8. Josh and I have finally gone to a Life Group and started to meet couple friends and I feel like we should have been doing this from the start! I have been really social lately and just love meeting new friends!

9. I can't think of anything else to say and so I will just say that the blog will be lit up with posts soon. No more winter after the next few weeks. Sorry for the boring lull here for the last few months.

10. Oh! One more thing! I'm now taking weddings (go figure) and plan on taking up to 2 per month (excluding maternity leave in mid June- first of August) until September of 2012 when Josh lands a teaching job and I plan on getting pregnant again. I mean, why not? I think I'll just have a whole slew of children. It's weird to think that for the next 5 or 6 years I could be either pregnant or nursing. Yikes.

Have a nice week.

I love it! I was just telling Dane it is hard to believe I have been pregnant, nursing, or trying to conceive for 9 years now. It was worth every second to hold these 5 miracles! So happy for you !!

Lissa Anglin:

Ha- this makes me laugh. I am getting used to our "new normal" of baby-infiltrated life. It's been good- great actually- but it's weird to think that I'm "lactating". Sounds so gross. But I guess that's how God intended it!

(01.31.11 @ 11:50 AM)
Diana Meadows:

Lauren- I am so happy for you guys! I remember you saying when you did Jack's newborn pics that you were sure you would get baby fever from photographing all these babies! I am so happy for you guys and I know you will be wonderful parents! Solomon will be the most photographed baby and I can't wait to see them! And yes, it's ok to push out instead of sucking in when pregnant, that's the best part! (Including the overindulgence of donuts!!) Have fun and soak it all in!

(01.31.11 @ 02:15 PM)
Heidi:

Long-time subscriber here, but don't know if I've ever left a comment before. Just had to say that pregnancy suits you! You look fabulous! I'd love to hear more about what was so fabulous about KC, too. We're always looking for a good trip idea. :)

(01.31.11 @ 11:15 PM)
Rana:

you look absolutely stunning Lauren!

(02.01.11 @ 09:09 AM)
Ash Tollett:

Hey girl, glad you had fun in K.C.! We live in Overland Park (south K.C.) and love it! Next time you are coming up, have Mar get you my number. JT would love to see Josh and I'd love to see you. You look great pregnant! And I know you feel big now, but trust me, just enjoy being able to see your toes, shave your legs evenly and tie your shoes. Pretty soon, those luxuries will be gone! I can't wait to feel normal again!

(02.01.11 @ 07:09 PM)
Katie:

i just had a baby in november and i'm so happy to hear that i'm not the only person who had itchy armpits while pregnant! i thought i was so weird because no one else i knew had that! and you look amazing pregnant, not chubby!! embrace it, it looks good on you!

(02.02.11 @ 03:08 PM)
Laura:

Don't worry about the twins comments. I've been getting them since I was 5 months preggers. One of my friends is legit carrying twins and she's only 3 weeks behind me. She looks REALLY pregnant, and has been bigger than me all along. People sometimes just shouldn't talk.

(02.02.11 @ 09:51 PM)
Leah:

Looks like Oklahoma life & pregnancy are agreeing with you! You look GORGEOUS as always! Enjoy this time you have of quiet stillness....it will be long gone when your little man arrives on the scene! If it makes you feel any better, we've been getting snow here as well, cold temps more than snow, but no laying out by the pool planned anytime soon ;)

(02.04.11 @ 09:57 AM)
Samantha:

IT's a busy but amazing time in your life. Enjoy these small moments of quiet now. Take a nap when you can, enjoy impromptu lunches with friends! I was either pregnant or nursing for 6.5 years straight (3 girls) and I remember it as a wonderful, but busy time that passed by in a blur! I just would nurse right up until the new baby arrived, but it worked out wonderfully!
