I was so excited to be able to do maternity photos while I was visiting my family in Lubbock last week. Melanie Pittman is a photographer there who has an almost identical style to me: bright, colorful and fun photos. It was fitting that I used her since our styles matched so well! I started off the morning getting my first haircut in 7 months! After I found out that I was pregnant back in October I thought that I would take advantage of the extra hormones and grow my hair out, but instead it ended up looking very shaggy and not too cute. Jalie Harrell cut it for me (I've always wanted a haircut from her!) at Panache Salon on Broadway and it was exactly what I wanted! My sister did my makeup for me and I threw together two outfits for it. I had such a fun time and felt pretty for the first time in months! Here are my favorites at 6 1/2 months pregnant with my first baby..

I've been trying to decide on a baby mobile for the nursery and wanted to think up a new idea that I haven't seen before and make it myself. After thinking and browsing tons of etsy sites, it came to me: paper airplanes, and then comics and then a bike wheel to spin them all.

Here is what I've come up with. I will have to find a way to safely secure it to the ceiling since it weighs about 5 pounds, but I think it will make a cute mobile!

I bought 3 old comic books from an antique store for $2.50/each and used a glue stick to glue the comics to both sides of a thicker card stock paper. I had cut the paper in half for 3 larger airplanes and cut it into 1/4ths for the smaller ones. While the paper was still pliable from the wet glue I went ahead and folded them into a "Dart" airplane and let them dry.

I cut red ribbon and folded it in half and glued a loop into the top fold for something to string it through and then glued the bottom flaps down to look a little more manicured. The bicycle wheel is a 20 inch for a child's bike that I bought new at the little bike shop here for $24. I can't decide if I will spray paint the wheel or not, but this is the progress!

(first of all, I realize this is a slightly blurry photo, I was barefoot standing near piles of hidden, soggy dog poo in cold mud. I was kind of in a hurry to get back inside!)

I was excited to look out my kitchen window while washing dishes this morning and see tiny blooms coming out on all of my trees. I have missed seeing green everywhere, even though that means that the humidity and tornado season are just around the corner, I am still glad.

I feel a connection with Spring this year. For the last 5 years it is the season that I never get to enjoy because I am triple booked each day and then have a wedding each weekend. I'm always stuck inside on those nice Spring mornings in front of my computer editing and not spending any good time enjoying the fresh air and beautiful blooms. Being pregnant since last October has also given me a connection because I went through a no-fun winter of morning sickness/exhaustion and gloomy, freezing weather. I'm ready for the Spring to come quietly and without all of the hustle and bustle that I normally have.

I've heard that some people gross out when pregnant women show their bare bellies. I do admit that I kind of do too, but here I am showing you my airbrushed gut as if you could see through it into my cute baby's face.

Oh well.

Another thing that I've discovered that people don't like about pregnant people is that they speak of their due date in weeks instead of months, half months and fourth months and so I have attempted to tell you that I am about 5 months and 3/4 of a month along. Solomon is 11.5 inches long, over a pound in weight and wiggling about a lot. My belly is starting to feel tighter and I'm hoping that the good ol stretchy marks are not in my skin's near future.

Nothing else is really new with my little guy, he is pretty much fully developed and now just has to grow 6 times the size he is now, sheesh, that is scary.

I follow your blog regularly and thought this post was cute. I used stretch mark oil/lotion on my belly every morning and night while I was pregnant and didn't get one stretch mark!!! And my belly got rather gigantic...good luck!
