Annie, Joe and Gunner met me in the beautiful town of Weston, Missouri last weekend for their family shoot. This white barn is starting to be my frequent location with it’s rustic areas and beautiful surroundings, I might need to just look into buying a place like this in the near future. Gunner and his little doggie were loving looking around at all of the new sights and sounds and God gave us a glorious, warm day for the shoot. Joe had to go and film one of his awesome basketball training DVDs after we did the family photos and so Annie and I went on to Weston and did a few of Gunner by himself. What a darling boy!
Silas turns one on Tuesday and we had his birthday celebration today with some family and friends. I get a little stressed out about birthday parties and wanting to make something “pinterest” worthy (I’m an all or nothing personality so this gives me particular anxiety), and this time I just decided to research what made a birthday simple and meaningful from a child’s point of view. I saw lots of things like spending focused attention on the child, making memories, playing games, etc… it reminded me of my wonderful childhood birthdays where we would just meet at a park and eat a homemade cake and play on the playground. I wanted to simplify my expectations and do just that, so we had a banana split and book birthday party. Everyone just brought Silas books and I didn’t even make a cake! We just had banana splits with all of the wonderful gooey, sugary toppings, busted a piñata and then opened the presents. It was simple and so wonderful. Besides both of my children’s sugar crashes and crankiness from them, I think they really loved the party. Silas has tons of new books to read too!
I still can’t believe this year is over, I want to look back and remember the memories, the growth and the love that I share with my family. Children are a blessing from God and I adore my babies.
It has been way too long since I’ve posted photos of my two boys, so this morning while we were tearing up Silas’s room I got out the camera to document my lively boys.
Elliott and Henry are two adorable little boys! Elliott was such a confident 5 year old, he wasn’t afraid of me or my camera and was just so lovely to photograph! His little brother was less interested in the photo shoot, but his genius dad came up with a way to get him to look at the camera and look pleasantly happy for longer than 2 seconds… the iPhone showing a tv show right above me lens! Now that’s a trick I’m going to keep! Genius! We hiked a mile loop around the Parkville Nature center and by the time we all got back to the cars we had had a great shoot and some really good exercise!
Ashley, Taylor and Ethan met me at the huge and wonderful Shawnee-Mission park last week and the weather was entirely too good to be true. This little fella was so spunky and fun, he reminded me a lot of my son, Solomon. Within minutes he was running away from his parents and coming up to me, he was curious and not afraid of a new face! We hiked around the park and eventually ended up by the beautiful lake for the last shots where I was loving the connection between Ethan and his dad. A father and a son’s love is just so precious and I’m glad to have been apart of their love that night.
We have just uprooted from our hometown of Lubbock, Texas to move to Dripping Springs!
I am still taking sessions in BOTH locations as I travel back and forth to visit family. Follow my social media and subscribe to my newsletter for my latest travel dates.
