Devin and Richard | McPherson Cellars Wedding | Lubbock Wedding Photographer

Devin and Richard’s wedding was one of the most colorful, fun weddings I’ve ever photographed! These two had to reschedule their wedding because of Covid and took it with stride as they postponed to the end of July.

McPherson Cellars is such a unique and beautiful venue in downtown Lubbock. The bold colors, modern landscaping and unique art pieces make it one heck of a wedding venue!

I love that Devin and Richard had two of their five dogs be a part of their wedding ceremony!

Devin was a stunner in her gorgeous wedding dress and she even had a second dress for the reception!

Congratulations, you two! Thank you for trusting me to be your wedding photographer!!

Pedernales Falls State Park

It’s time for another amazing Texas Hill Country adventure tour!! Two months ago I purchased a Texas State Park pass for $70 and started scheduling several weekends of parks that we could go and visit this summer and Pedernales State Park was one of the most recommended places to visit.

Apparently the locals call it “Pert’nales” and I was immediately confused… but when in Rome do as the Romans, right?

There were huge rock formations that you could jump across or climb down and explore depending on how deep the water was at the falls. It had rained a few days before out visit so the water was rushing quite a bit more than usual.

We found this deep pocket of water in the rock at the end of the limestone area and there was a Gar and several large Bass swimming around. We kept trying to catch it with our bare hands and I grabbed it once! Darn slippery fish got away… next time I’ll have to bring out my Oklahoma Noodling technique I watched on youtube…

Swimming wasn’t allowed down at the falls and it was super hot so we recommend bringing lots of water while hiking down to it.

That Texas heat don’t play!

We finally found the designated swimming area and hiked down a long path of stone stairs before finding the sandy riverbank.

The current was pretty strong in the area that we swam at and we were glad to have brought our tubes so that the kids could just float down and then hike back up and do it again. I bet during a time with less rain it would be perfect to swim without feeling like you could get swept downstream.

Until our next adventure!

Stephanie and Josh Jones | Legacy Event Center | Lubbock Wedding Photographer

Stephanie and Josh were married last weekend at the Legacy Event Center here in Lubbock. I photographed her sister’s wedding right when we moved back to Lubbock in 2015 and Stephanie’s wedding is one of my last before we move away. It was special to get to work with their family again!

Stephanie fractured her foot in rock climbing accident right before her wedding and she took it with stride and decided to decorate her boot and crutches for the wedding.

Their first look was so sweet! I always love when I can tell that the couple will be taking a bit longer to talk during their first look and I can slip away and let them have time alone.

Isn’t this the sweetest exit? Instead of walking back down on her crutches Josh scooper her up and whisked her away!

Abby and Jimmie | Lubbock Engagement Photographer

I was pumped when Abby told me that her and Jimmie had two Great Danes.

When Josh and I first got married I had a merlequin Dane named Meridian and a blue mantle Dane named London. I couldn’t wait to meet these cuties and their owners for an engagement session in downtown Lubbock.

Abby is a SCAD graduate and I knew with her love of design and art we had to go down to the LHUCA area on Mac Davis and Ave J!

These two live in Midland and I wanted to incorporate West Texas themes throughout their engagement session. The 105 degree wind did wonders for us with her awesome Magnolia Pearl outfits!

We ended the session at Dunbar Lake and I knew I wanted to try to get some awesome silhouettes with them and the pups! I loved how these turned out and can’t wait for their wedding next May!

Congratulations you two!!

Blue Hole | Wimberley, Texas

My kids and I hit up another amazing Texas Hill Country swimming spot last week, Wimberley’s BLUE HOLE!

They are allowing 50 people at a time to book spots for 4 hours time slots from 9AM-1PM or 2-6 PM. You can schedule it here, but it is filling up for August already, so schedule a month in advance if you can!

It had been over 15 years since I had been to the Blue Hole and they have really made it so much nicer! There are two platforms to swing off from the Cypress trees. One is for smaller kids and the other one if for the older kids. It wasn’t too long before Silas was running and jumping for the ring with the high schoolers as they all watched on in awe that a 7 year old was doing tricks just as well as they were!

The water is CRYSTAL clear and there are tons of fish! I recommend bringing an inner tube, picnic basket, and goggles! There is a large grassy park area right by the river to set your things on and a lot of families brought outdoor games to play once they were done with the water.

The water at Blue Hole is spring fed from Jacob’s Well and is a constant 68 degrees. It is SO refreshing on a 100+ Texas summer day. There is a shallow area that is only 2-3 feet deep for younger kids and then there are areas that are 20+ feet deep towards the end of the river park.

The boys said that this was their favorite place to visit yet! We’ve already booked another spot in September. I hope you get to experience it because it is just SO magical!

Until our next adventure…

John and Amanda | Kitalou Gin |Lubbock Wedding Photographer

This weekend was such a fun celebration at Kitalou Gin in Idalou, Texas!

Wedding Cake: Ladeana Lenning (mother of the bride)

I first met Amanda when I photographed her senior pictures in TWO-THOUSAND-AND-FIVE. Can you believe how long ago that was? I had just started my photography business and after her senior session she came over to pick my brain about starting a photography business herself too.

10 Years later I remember recognizing her when I was photographing Michaela Noles wedding and was so pumped when she called me to do her wedding, too! She told me that it was her dream for me to be her wedding photographer… wow, what a special thing to hear! #nopressure

Her big day came with the Texas July heat and was sitting at about 108 all day. We sweated it up with all of their friends and family and it was such a wonderful experience!

Amanda was such a joyful and stunning bride. I loved watching her two sisters and mom as they celebrated the last of the Lenning daughters getting married.

I don’t know about you but being around people who are laughing, heartfelt crying and celebrating really fills my cup (especially during this wild year when we are all so isolated).

108 degrees outside… Amanda had fans everywhere and we were so glad she did! I think that is possibly the hottest wedding I’ve ever been a part of.

Congratulations you two and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you both!
