What is the Family Session Guide?

It is a 40+ page PDF of examples of family and children posing ideas and tricks to get genuine expression from children during a family photo session

– My mental checklist for the photos that I do at family sessions

– 37 basic poses, games, and direction to get genuine smiles and expressions from kids and families.

– This beautifully designed PDF contains tons of inspiration photos with the lens choice and metadata from each photo

– Printable checklist of the pose ideas to take with you on a shoot so that you can have a reminder of all of the ideas you see!

– List of cameras and lenses that I use

Who did you make this for?

I created this PDF for photographers who wanted to see a general structure for how I do my family photography sessions. I am totally a method girl and once something works, I stick with it! It is a progressive guide to many of my go to “poses” and directing ideas from start to finish in a family session and my thoughts on how to get any child to give me genuine smiles during the session. I don’t go into anything technical about how to use your camera, but have included the shutter, aperture and lens choice for every photo in the PDF so that you can reference when to use the different apertures. This is great for any portrait photographer who is looking to add a few tricks to their bag to take with them to family sessions. Davina’s Questionnaire is an extremely useful PDF also, it contains much more text on using the questionnaire and dealing with families.

A little bit about my photography teaching history:

My first “student” was my high school English teacher when I was a junior. She was fascinated with photography and I had just been learning for the past two years when she approached me about helping her teach the first photojournalism class in our private school the following year. I was so excited to and we began meeting over study hall to discuss aperture, shutter, lighting, lenses and subjects. It was thrilling and so much fun to teach and continue discovering new things about my favorite hobby.

The month before I graduated high school I opened up “Lauren Lee Photography” in Lubbock, Texas hoping to do enough work to pay off my $2000 loan for the Canon 10D and fancy lens that I purchased. What I thought would be a very small side job turned into a huge success within the next 3 years. I was traveling the nation learning at “famous” photographer’s workshops and shooting weddings everywhere from Oregon to New Hampshire. My blog was the best way to reach people across the world with my photography posts and my super personal blurbs that I would submit almost daily. Three years into my career I was asked to co-teach a women’s only photography seminar with 3 other photographers that I had met at workshops. Millie Holloman (she now owns several booming businesses and still does photography in North Carolina), Davina Fear (who has a family-ness blog and inspires mother’s everywhere to be more present with their kids, and she is still shooting documentary style photos for families) and Kelly Moore Clark (of the ultra famous Kelly Moore Bag). We met and planned the most lavish women’s photography seminar experience possible. There had never been anything else like it before! It was a luxury experience jammed packed with every bit of knowledge that we had learned in our collective 20 years of shooting. We held 5 different workshops with 300 women from around the world in 4 different states. It was mind blowing and incredible! I will never forget those days and consider them to be the pinnacle of my career in photography.

After the first Love Affair Workshop all of the girls were creating photography learning products and I had nothing to offer. I began to brain storm with them and then it hit me that no one had ever sold a DVD tutorial on how to do photoshop in their style from start to finish. I sat on the idea for months and started secretly planning. When I released “UNO”, the 1 hour tutorial on all things photoshop, I had no idea that it would sell over 750 copies in the first year and a half. God’s hand of blessing was on it from the beginning.

I also started having inquiries about one on one seminars for people who wanted specific advice to their photography business and began teaching those at my house in Lubbock, Texas. The “Brainwash” seminar was so fun and I had 30 or more people attend those too.

When I started having my babies is when I slowed way down with my business, seminars and teaching and focused more on learning a whole new thing… motherhood! Going from a hands off aunt to a mother was definitely a challenge that I had to meet with my full attention!

I am currently offering 1-2 mini group seminars per year, but try to stay at home with my boys as much as possible. Traveling around for photography as much as I once did just isn’t as appealing when I know that I’m soon going to have my third boy in March. Motherhood definitely trumps my business, but I still wanted to be able to teach and share what I’ve learned over the years.

This leads me to my newest learning tool for photographers, The Family Session Guide! It is a 40+ page PDF of tips and tricks, my mental shot list at family sessions, my gear bag contents, troubleshooting and inspiration photos. It is beautifully designed and full of everything I could think of to get children to warm up to you, families to look natural while interacting and direction to give to families for poses.

I will begin selling it next week right here on my blog for $125 with the option to add on the family questionnaire for $25 more. Be on the lookout for contests, prizes and promo codes to use next week on the blog!

Fayettville Group Seminar

2014-11-20_0025

My next group photography seminar will be January 17th in Fayettville, Arkansas and I only have three spots left before it’s closed! I most likely won’t be doing another group seminar until next Fall due to having my third baby in March.

Our meeting location will be at Amber Lanning Photography’s studio in Fayettville, Arkansas, from 3-7 PM.

The cost is $500 per person and will be in a small group setting.

I took a break from teaching my “Brainwash” seminar for a year and a half and feel renewed enough to start them back up again! I’ve taught over 100 people through my group seminars, 20 or more in one on one seminars and close to 300 in our Love Affair Workshop tour. If you want to learn then best tips from me without booking an extended period of time then this is the workshop for you!

The best news is that I’ve scheduled it in the afternoon on a Saturday to help with childcare options if you are a mom!

Here is what I will cover in the 4 hours:

– shooting in manual MY WAY! My method is very different than what most people do! I teach you a fail proof method to get a great exposure in any lighting condition, even in the middle of the day in the bright sun!

– posing/directing couples, families and children

– watch me photograph a client for 45 minutes. It will be cold and so we will photograph a senior or a couple, children won’t be too happy with me in the cold!

– dinner at a great spot in Fayettville and Q&A time with questions that you bring

– editing the entire session from start to finish with my easy presets!

Additionally I will give you a 30 minute phone/skype mentoring or Q&A time up to two months after the seminar to follow up with anything you are having trouble with!

Here is what a one-on-one seminar attendee wrote after her time with me:

“I’ve been following Lauren Clark’s career since I started my own photography business five years ago. I love the energy in her poses and the vivid color in her photos, and I spent countless hours trying to get a similar look by doing online tutorials, messing around with different in-camera settings, and experimenting with LightRoom. This past summer I happened to be in Kansas City and was thrilled to be able to book a two-hour Brainwash session with her. It was fantastic! I learned more in two hours in person than I had learned in years online. And I put her tips to use at a wedding the very next weekend. I highly recommend a one-on-one session with Lauren Clark. It’s a solid investment in your future as a photographer!” – Lori, a wedding photographer from Wisconsin

To book your spot, you can purchase the seminar deposit HERE! The remainder will be billed to you the week before the seminar.
