Winter always brings a recovery from the long Fall shooting schedule, a website overhaul, twiddling my thumbs for a few weeks and then finally a renewal of my creativity. I have been photographing my boys lately and gaining an interest in lifestyle photography- something I’ve never explored or been very good at! Today I photographed my boys doing what they naturally do all day and tried using the light to create more artful and meaningful images, I may even begin to offer lifestyle sessions for children and families in their homes if I can figure it all out!

My style has always been portraits more than photojournalism, but I am so excited to keep exploring new techniques and push myself to learn more so that I can be the best photographer that I can possibly be!

Last workshop of 2016!

Every winter I host a small workshop where I teach aspiring or intermediate photographers exactly what I do and how I do it. This will be my last group workshop of the year! Over the years I have taught one on one, in small groups and at large all inclusive workshops and it has always been so fun to explain and help others better understand this craft of photography! My favorite type of workshop is small and information rich!

Here is what will be covered:

  • Learn how to shoot in manual (a much different and less complex method than most people usually learn)
  • How to “see” the light in every location and utilize this information to get more beautiful photos and edit less on the computer because of it!
  • How I interact with the client, and posing ideas for singles, couples and families.
  • Watch me photograph a family or couple (I will poll the attendees to see which one)
  • My start to finish “natural” editing technique

I don’t hold back important information about the subjects talked about in my seminars, I give you all that I can  in the time available.

Playdough

2016-01-14_0001

Solomon was at school this morning and after a few weeks of just taking a mental break from the busy Fall and Christmas I decided to do something fun and messy with the younger boys. I made homemade play dough a few weeks ago and it turned into slimy mush in the bags, so we decided to add lots of flour and play with it anyway. I haven’t photographed the boys playing in a while and when I realized how perfect the lighting was I grabbed it to savor these memories. Sam is 9 1/2 months now and will be our last baby, but I’m having a hard time remembering to stop and be present with him because my life is so consumed with taking care of 4 people everyday. Today I stopped, savored and loved my time with them.

From childhood Self discovery, storytelling and curiosity have always been the foundations of my heart.

The exploration of everything in life has always allured me farther and farther into risk, creativity and wonder. I have always been one to swim up stream and carve out a life that was a little bit unique from the status quo.
