I’ve had the pleasure of photographing Varsha and her family several times over the last few years and I am always excited to get together with them again. During this session we were able to meet at a gorgeous sunflower field north of Lubbock, Texas and it did not disappoint!
Varsha and her pup are the sweetest and Ari is definitely a spoiled little dude! I love how she carries him like a toddler! Ha!
Thanks so much Varsha, Shan and Pushpa! I hope to see ya’ll again next year.
We are on the last leg of our final week long trip to Dripping Springs, Texas before we move here the first week of August! I have loved exploring the area and meeting some of the locals while we have been visiting. This week I had the pleasure of photographing Emma, a 2021 senior here in DS.
We met at this adorable historic home that is now one of Dripping Spring’s cutest boutiques- Fresh Native. Emma is an aspiring photographer, cat lover and technical theatre guru.
Thanks so much for meeting me this week, Emma! I hope your senior year is the best!
We were looking for something that was outdoor, COVID proof and exciting and so we booked the Exotic Zoo Safari in Johnson City.
Boy were we PLEASED!
It was a 10/10 experience for us. We went in the early morning before it was too hot and made sure to purchase a $6 bag of feed for each of us. The bags were huge lunch sacks full of feed and the animals FLOCKED to the car. We probably had 30-40 deer surrounding the car as we drove 2 mph through the park.
There were new animal babies everywhere which was extra special to see. If you’ve never seen baby Emus then you feel like you’re transported into Jurassic Park. These little things would run around the feet of the deer and seriously looked like little Velociraptor babies.
The drive through the park had several different cattle guards to pass through separating certain types of animals. There were Zebras, Camels, Deer, Emu, Ostrich, Buffalo, Llamas, Rams, Water Buffalo and many other types of animals.
The kids (and I… who am I kidding?) squealed with delight the entire time as we tried luring the animals farther into the car for a closer photo.
The boys kept saying “This is the BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!!” over and over and you know what, it is definitely one of my best days too. I’ve always loved animals and have never had this kind of up close encounter with so many of them. It was such a fun experience!
Ticket prices are $16.95/each and the bags of feed are $6/each. It took us about 45 minutes to get through the safari and we had almost run out of feed by the end (so get a lot of bags of feed- we had a total of 5). Here is their website for more information. They have cabins and a petting zoo available also, but the drive-through was the main attraction open due to COVID.
Brooks and Kennah Grant have been some of our oldest friends. Josh and I started hanging out with them when we were first married 15 years ago!
Our friendship grew through long distance moves when Brooks was in optometry school in Houston, started a practice in Abilene (Amplified Vision) and eventually to all of us having kids at the same time.
It was so wonderful to watch our kids play seamlessly this weekend and I loved the photos that we got out by the hills in Abilene, Texas.
If you are near Abilene and need an eye appointment then check in with the BEST, Dr. Grant, at Amplified Vision.
Some of you may already know this, but my sister in law and her family live on and run Wanderin’ Star Farms in Dripping Springs, Texas. It’s this incredible 30 acre property in the Texas Hill Country and they built 3 custom, tiny home cabins on the land several years ago where they began a secluded, farm AIRBNB experience for their guests.
My husband began working on the property in April during quarantine and after making several trips down we decided to make the move down to Dripping Springs also!
When we move in August I am going to begin offering 20 minute mini sessions to the people staying in the cabins so that they have the opportunity for a short couple or family session in this magical place.
Theo and Priscilla met me out at Wanderin’ Star Farms a few days ago to do a photoshoot to promote it and I was SO glad they did! If you are looking for a beautiful place to stay in the Texas Hill Country AND want to have your family or couple photos done there then let me know!
Oh Jacob’s Well!!! I have waited years to come to thee!
After we decided to commit to moving to Dripping Springs I began watching the local swimming hole reservation websites like a hawk. Covid shut them all down for a while and I felt like I was waiting for some huge sale at my favorite store to drop at midnight and kept hitting the refresh button over and over.
And then finally… I got a spot and it was all I imagined it to be!
Visitors can come and explore the area for free, but swimmers must have a spot reserved and it is monitored by a park employee down at the water. They give you a waterproof stamp with the time slot you reserved when you arrive and you are free to swim, jump and explore in the water for 2 hours.
With COVID happening they reduced their reservations to 50% which was so nice! There were only 30 people total in our 2 hour swimming group.
When you get to the main well area it looks a lot smaller than you remember from Pinterest and Instagram photos at only 12 feet across, but it isn’t small on fun!
You have to squeeze through this tiny little rock stairwell to get to the jumping boulders and then can choose which level you feel most comfortable jumping from into the deep, cold abyss. The water is a constant 68 degrees and is completely refreshing on a hot Texas day.
The rest of the river area is either very pebbly (bring water shoes) or glossed over with slime and you will just ski along the bottom hoping you don’t fall in. The water is very shallow other than the 30 foot deep well (that actually goes down another 100 feet deep in its’ thousands of feet long underwater caving system).
Here is a cool youtube video if you want to see the underwater caves!
After our time was up we walked along the dry creek trail and the kids explored a few caves and found some fossils in the rocks. It was a 10/10 experience for us all and we’ve already booked our second trip for the summer at the end of August.
If you are considering going you can reserve your spot for only $5-$9/person here!
When I was 12 I began to write an autobiography that i titled,
"Lauren Lee, a horse of a different color".
From childhood Self discovery, storytelling and curiosity have always been the foundations of my heart.
The exploration of everything in life has always allured me farther and farther into risk, creativity and wonder. I have always been one to swim up stream and carve out a life that was a little bit unique from the status quo.
I harness all of these gifts and brings them to you through my photography experience. My keen eye for uncommon beauty, fearless sense of adventure and strong willed endurance and optimism provide you with the best possible photos.
Seemingly Effortlessly.
I hope you enjoy the colorful photos, stories and adventures that i share with you!
