We booked Hamilton Pool reservations back in March over Spring Break when we planned to come down to Dripping to visit family. The pandemic had just hit the US and the first warnings about social distancing were hitting. So many things had changed for our family in March and I knew that I needed a trip to see something beautiful, but sadly we came down with what I think was a mild case of Covid the day before we planned to leave. We canceled our trip 30 minutes before we were supposed to leave town hoping to go the next morning, but that’s when the mild fever began coming and going each day. We waited another several weeks before we got to make our trip down to Dripping.
Our reservations were also soon canceled as Travis County Parks began to close for months and months.
Hamilton Pool’s reopening has been on my weekly watch list ever since! I randomly checked the website a few weeks ago and think I happened upon the website the day it reopened and booked two slots to see it. I’m glad I did because they sold out within days!
The swimming is still closed due to social distancing, but the hike down was gorgeous! It is one of my favorite places in the Texas Hill Country so far. I will definitely be here a ton next summer to swim with the kids!
There is a hiking loop around the pond that circles into the cave and back around so that you can have a 360 view of this amazing place! There were huge catfish in the pond too, which my kids loved!
There is another trail that hikes down to the Pedernales River, but that is also closed due to COVID.
Before we came here the boys and I decided to get a GoPro and let them make a Youtube channel as a homeschool project. You can view their tour of Hamilton Pool here.
It is $12 per car to reserve a spot to come and see the pool and an additional $8/adult with kids under 12 years old being free. They only take cash for the entrance fee so be sure to bring some! You will definitely want to add this one to your list when you are in the Dripping Springs area!
Until our next adventure…
