Do you ever have those random moments when you just flashback to a certain time in your life and there was no reason why you did? Well last night I had a flashback to my wedding day, July 8, 2005. I was 19, turning 20 the next day, and my husband was 21. I had waited impatiently since I was 13 to get married… I thought I was going to get lucky and marry off when I was 16, but God had better plans for my life than skipping over my teenage years for some hard matrimony!
Josh and I met and had this whirlwind romance, the kind where you are ALWAYS thinking about the other person and driving 15 miles out of your way just to deliver a handwritten love letter. He was working at Sugar Brown’s coffee shop and I was doing photography part time (VERY part time) and working at Starbucks. It was a match made in coffee lover’s heaven (except I didn’t drink coffee, I was in it for the decaf mocha with two extra pumps of vanilla).
We dated for 3 months, got engaged and then married 4 months later.
I threw together a budget wedding for under $5000 and after the money had run out I had just decided to somehow photograph the wedding myself. I could pull that off right? I could just do the getting ready pics and detail shots, then have some relative do ceremony shots and I would set up the formals and then let someone else shoot them… right? Piece of cake. Right? No biggie. Right?
When I had told my mentors and friend photographers my plan they all stepped in and said “NO WAY!”. They all volunteered to photograph my wedding for FREE. I had like 4 photographers at my wedding… FOR FREE. I could’t believe it. Kristin, Toni, Patty and LuAnn took the lead and allowed me to actually participate in my wedding as a bride (duh) and not be the facilitating photographer AND the bride. It was one of the most touching gifts I’ve ever been given.
So after that flashback last night, the idea to pay it forward and do the same thing for a Lubbock bride came to me- SO… I’m giving away a package worth over $5000 to a lucky Bride and Groom! The only fine print is that it has to be in the Lubbock area!
